Podcast: Leadership Save Lives at Baptist Hospital

On “Pensacola Speaks,” Dr. Ray Aycock and Leslie Smith of Baptist Health Care talked about the Leadership Saves Lives research initiative.

Baptist Hospital is one of only 10 hospitals nationwide chosen to participate in the Leadership Saves Lives (LSL) research initiative, in partnership with Yale University’s Global Health Leadership Institute. The overall goal of the research initiative is to reduce heart attack mortality through organizational culture change and leadership development.

The LSL research initiative is a two-year team-based leadership development program to improve hospital care for patients. Baptist is participating with in-depth interviews of team members, reviews of relevant hospital policies and protocols, and observations of key staff interactions such as management meetings and clinical rounds on patients with acute myocardial infarction.

“This initiative has the potential to save lives in our own community, and what we learn can be shared with health care providers throughout the country. Baptist Hospital is fortunate to be involved in a project that may have an impact on how patients receive care nationwide,” said Scott Raynes, Baptist Hospital president.

The Leadership Saves Lives research initiative will be ongoing at Baptist Hospital until Fall of 2016.
