Podcast: UWF as NWFL’s Future Research Hub

The University of West Florida won approval of a $32 million grant from Triumph Gulf Coast, positioning the institution as a major player in artificial intelligence and computational research in the Southeast.

The funding will establish UWF’s new Center for Computational Intelligence, which will revolutionize the university’s research capabilities. Kuhl explained, “And what that is, is it’s an umbrella of everything that we do at the university in terms of robotics, intelligence systems, machine learning, deep learning, data science, automation.”

The initiative is part of a carefully planned long-term strategy. “The idea is that in 10 years time, we will have a research center of excellence that includes both computational intelligence as well as our center for cybersecurity, where we are generating funding and revenue through grants and contracts, whether that’s federal or at the state level or industry.”
