Councilman Delarian Wiggins has called for a moratorium on any more city funding for Re-Entry Alliance of Pensacola (REAP) until the city can review REAP’s expenditures for its homeless camp on West Moreno Street behind Baptist Hospital. He appeared on my radio show this morning.
When he visited the camp before Labor Day, the councilman was appalled at what he saw.
“I was not pleased with man-made showers, man-made ditch with water that had a foul smell,” Wiggins shared. “Food was not refrigerated, sitting out in the sun, and a host of other complaints that I’ve received.”
He continued, “So, I thought that it would only be fair and the right thing to do was just to freeze funding. Let’s go in and do an audit, make sure everything is running the way that it’s supposed to be.”
