Politics over children

The Outzen Principle is Government always finds money for it wants. The rule holds true for all levels of government.

Last week, Gov. Ron DeSantis dipped into the Florida Department of Transportation’s budget to ship 48 refugees to Martha’s Vineyard. He tapped into $12 million the Florida Legislature set aside for migrant relocation.

Meanwhile, state lawmakers chose not to appropriate $10 million to increase the number of community schools by a dozen. The Children’s Home Society was seeking to expand its highly successful Community Partnership Schools program, which includes Weis Elementary in Escambia County.

CHS got shunned, and DeSantis got another headline. And Florida’s children lost.
