Presser Notes – April 9

Cyber Attack Update
In accordance with the city’s protocol, Mayor D.C. Reeves is not directly involved in the cyber attack investigation. The FDLE and FBI are responsible for releasing any statements.

The city is preparing a communications plan om how  it will provide credit monitoring services to city residents and other users, as it did in 2019. He admitted they have enough information from the attack “for us to say that it was possible, but still, to this moment, we’re not aware of that something has been leaked or something specifically is out there.”

Out of an abundance of caution, the mayor said, “You’ll see some letters coming from USPS to everyone affected. There’ll be a 1-800 number. We’re bolstering up services at 3-1-1.
We’ve learned from 2019, so hopefully, we will have an even more seamless approach in 2024.”

Curbside Recycling
The RFP period for curbside recycling closed on Monday, and the city received two bids.

“We’ll vet all of that out, and we’ll see what that looks like and if that is financially viable, logistically viable for our citizens, something we can pursue, and we’ll see what our options are from there,” said the mayor.

Bruce Beach Playground & Portland Loos
The Portland Loo will be installed on Friday, April 19, and the playground will open on Saturday, April 27.

The installation schedule for the remaining outdoor restrooms:

The mayor said, “progress continues with the UWF Museum Plaza partnership with the Historic Trust that we would put a fourth in right there behind the state museum. No date on that yet, but those conversations continue and are positive.”

Other News:
Parks & Rec is adding a kitchen to the Woodland Heights Community Center at a cost of $60,000.

Mayor Reeves is looking at adding a four-way stop at the intersection of Tarragona and Jefferson streets. City staff will conduct a study and come back with a recommendation.
