Are all charter schools treated equally by Superintendent Malcolm Thomas?
On Pensacola Speaks today, Rev. Lutimothy May will talk about his dealings with the superintendent when he tried to help a failing charter school, A. A. Dixon.
In 2011, Superintendent Malcolm Thomas wanted to close the A.A. Charter School of Excellence. The school took inner-city students that had struggled in the district’s elementary schools.
After one year, the school had a “F” grade and was nearly $100,000 in the hole. Rev. Lutimothy May stepped in and with community support tried to rescue the school.

The school was given another year and showed improvements by Thomas still wanted to close the school (Read A Charter’s Course). Eventually Dixon became a private school.
