Florida State University’s Institute for Strategic Partnerships, Innovation, Research & Education (InSPIRE) has announced the addition of Dr. C. “Ed” Edward Meadows to its Advisory Council, strengthening its commitment to workforce development in Northwest Florida.
- Dr. Meadows, who has served as President of Pensacola State College (PSC) since 2008, brings extensive experience in educational leadership and workforce development to the council. Under his guidance, PSC is currently developing a 25,000-square-foot facility at Pensacola International Airport for a new Associate of Science program in Airframe and Powerplant technology. Additionally, he is overseeing an on-campus collaboration with LIFT Technologies to enhance opportunities in advanced manufacturing, technology, and research for students.
“Dr. Meadows plays a vital role in our education community and is a visionary leader with an impressive history of results,” said Florida State University Vice President for Research Stacey Patterson. She highlighted his expansive developments at Pensacola State College as evidence of his transformational capabilities.
WHY? The appointment comes as part of FSU’s broader regional initiative to strengthen workforce development through partnerships with local colleges. A collaborative agreement between PSC, Northwest Florida State College, Gulf Coast State College, Chipola College, and Tallahassee State College has been established to facilitate student transitions to FSU for advanced education opportunities.
FSU Panama City Dean Randy Hanna, who co-chairs the Advisory Council, emphasized the regional nature of the InSPIRE initiative. “While currently headquartered at FSU PC with facilities being built at the Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport, InSPIRE is truly a regional effort and maintains a clear focus on positively impacting all counties within Northwest Florida,” Hanna stated.
Dr. Meadows, who also serves as the immediate past chair of the Florida College System Council of Presidents and current chair of the HCA Florida West Hospital Board of Trustees, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership’s potential. “The five public colleges of the Florida College System look forward to a meaningful partnership with Florida State University to advance our local workforce in the three technical sectors of aerospace, advanced manufacturing, and health care,” he said.
BACKGROUND: The InSPIRE initiative, launched with initial funding from Triumph Gulf Coast, Inc., aims to fuel regional innovation and economic growth. The program encompasses applied research, advanced manufacturing, and aerospace testing facilities, while also working to increase the number of engineering graduates in the region. Through its commitment to STEM outreach and K-20 education development, InSPIRE is actively building the workforce talent needed to support high-speed aerodynamics and advanced manufacturing industries in Northwest Florida.
