Following a national search, Pensacola State College’s Director of Nursing Dusti Sluder has been selected as the Dean of the Warrington Campus, PSC President Edward Meadows announced.
“Because of the BSN accreditation processes taking place this year and the need to get our new Assistant Director of Nursing Joni Jones from Battle Creek, Michigan on board, Dr. Sluder will assume full responsibility as dean in September 2016,†President Meadows said.
For the coming year, Linda Whitenton, retired dean of nursing and health science at Northwest Florida State College, has been appointed interim dean of the Warrington campus. Sluder will continue as director of nursing and assistant to the interim dean during this transition.
“I am confident that Ms. Whitenton and Dr. Sluder will ensure a smooth transition of leadership that will benefit our students, faculty and staff at the Warrington campus and the college,†President Meadows said.
“Dr. Sluder is a seasoned professional who has provided vision, leadership and strategic direction for Pensacola State’s nursing programs and Mrs. Whitenton has vast experience in nursing and health science education as well as 40 years in clinical nursing practice.â€
Prior to joining PSC in 2008, Sluder worked at Santa Rosa Medical Center as a staff nurse in ICU, as well as a medical surgical nurse and house supervisor. Sluder received her LPN and ADN from Pensacola Sate, BSN from the University of South Alabama, and MSN from Walden University. In 2014, she received her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Duquesne University.
During Whitenton’s tenure at NWFSC, she spearheaded national accreditation for the majority of their health programs and served two years as chair of the Florida Council of Nurse Educators and Administrators. She also held administrative positions in nursing and health science programs at St. Petersburg College in Florida and Northeast Mississippi Community College in Booneville, Miss.
