WSRE Airing Candidate Forum for Special Election

Rally 2007 — Watch, Decide, Vote

Pensacola, Fla. — WSRE, PBS for the Gulf Coast, will host and air a live candidate’s forum, “Rally 2007,” this Thursday, February 1 at 7 p.m. for the Florida House of Representatives, District three seat. A Special Primary Election will be held February 6, 2007, and a Special General Election will be held February 27, 2007, to fill the vacancy left by former State Representative Holly Benson.

David Stafford, Escambia County Supervisor of Elections states, “WSRE is providing a valuable public service by airing ‘Rally 2007.’ I encourage any and all efforts to educate the public when it comes to the issues and candidates on the ballot. The ‘Rally’ series helps voters make informed choices at the polls.”

The purpose of “Rally 2007” is to provide viewers with an up close look at the candidates vying to represent them, as well as give a clear picture of where these candidates stand on issues ranging from economic development to the environment to health care to insurance. In many cases, this will be the only opportunity citizens have to hear from the candidates. Candidates will be asked questions developed by The League of Women Voters, and viewers will be able to call in or email their questions the evening of the program. All questions will be asked of all the candidates for the sake of fairness.

Participating and confirmed candidates to appear on this special include:

Republicans: Tom Banjanin, V. (Clay) Ford, Lyn Hart, George Scarborough

Democrats: Elizabeth Campbell, John H. Wyche

To see who the candidates are and learn more about their stance on the political issues facing this region, tune in to WSRE on Thursday, February 1, 7 p.m., for “Rally 2007.” The program will be hosted by Lloyd Patterson. Viewers can catch the program over the air on Channel 23, on cable channel 8 in Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties or on cable channel 9 in Okaloosa County.
