Rally to say NO to a FP&L rate increase

Press Release: With the rising costs of everything from eggs to rent and insurance, Floridians are struggling to make ends meet. And now, Florida Power and Light (FPL) is pushing for the largest rate hike in U.S. history — just as our state recovers from last year’s devastating hurricanes. FPL wants to raise rates by nearly $10 billion over the next four years, burdening over 5 million households in its service area, including millions throughout the State of Florida.

Join Earth Action, the League of Women Voters of the Pensacola Bay Area, Northwest Florida Panhandle Coalition For Civic Engagement, and Escambia County Democratic Party on Monday, May 12th from 6 pm – 7:30 pm, Ever’man Educational Center, 327 W Garden St. as we take a deep dive into what this means for you and our community.

We will address how you can get engaged and provide prompts (talking points) for those wanting to speak at the upcoming Public Service Commission meetings. Finally, learn about how programs such as Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) are being gutted and are not available for those struggling to pay their bills.

  1. LIHEAP is not the only program being gutted that helps low income individuals with utilities. The Florida Area on Aging and Disabilities funds for electric bills for seniors was frozen some time ago by DOGE.
