On Truth Social, President-elect Donald Trump posted: “I greatly appreciate the recent efforts of Matt Gaetz in seeking approval to be Attorney General. He was doing very well but, at the same time, did not want to be a distraction for the Administration, for which he has much respect. Matt has a wonderful future, and I look forward to watching all of the great things he will do!”

On X, two announced candidates for his District 1 seat posted about Gaetz. One didn’t ask him to return to Congress; the other said he would support Matt’s return.

State Rep. Michelle Salzman posted: “@mattgaetz is a fighter through and through. Like Floridians across our state, I stand with Matt whenever and wherever his next fight may be.”

State Rep. Joel Rudman posted: “Congressman Gaetz would have been a fantastic Attorney General. If he wants to come back to Congress, I will support him 100%. If not, I am ready to carry the torch and fight like hell to make him proud! #MAGA”

State Rep. Alex Andrade, who is not running, posted: “This whole circumstance highlights this significant fact: @mattgaetz has this uncanny ability to make career politicians hang on to his every word. Countless people are waiting to see what he does next. In a world of talkers and NPC’s, Matt is a doer.”
