Gov. Ron DeSantis’ administration has rejected a proposed AP American American Studies course saying it violates Florida law. In tweets, Florida Education Commissioner Many Diaz accused the course of being “woke indoctrination masquerading as education.”
FDOE objected to covering topics such as the Black Lives Movement, Black Feminist Literary Thought, the Reparations Movement and Black activism in the 21st century. Gov. Ron DeSantis honed in on Black Queer Studies.
“We believe in teaching kids facts and how to think, but we don’t believe they should have an agenda imposed on them,” DeSantis said at his Monday presser. “When you try to use Black history to shoehorn in queer theory, you are clearly trying to use that for political purposes.”
The Miami Herald has published the course’s framework.
