Real News: Cowboy Mouth returns to Vinyl Music Hall

Cowboy Mouth

Cowboy Mouth plays tomorrow at Vinyl Music Hall, 2 S. Palafox St. Frontman/Drummer Fred LeBlanc was our guest on “Real News with Rick Outzen” this morning.

“I’m looking very forward to it. We always have a great time playing the Vinyl. It’s going to be a great show, and everybody needs to get their rear ends out because I’m in the mood to do some celebrating just for the hell of it, man,” Fred said.

Co-host Sena Maddison shared one of her favorite Pensacola shows. “I’ve talked about this before because Cowboy Mouth came to Pensacola right after we had had a terrible flood, a jail explosion, and it was just such a way to let it all out. It was great to be there, but I was just thinking about when I first saw Cowboy Mouth. I think it was Jeff Fest in 1993. How long have you all been together?”

“478 years, ” he joked. “I remember when we first started, everybody was excited for this new president named Abraham Lincoln. He was promised to do good things, but then with half the country cutoff gigs got a little weird. But we’ve been at this since October 1990.”

Fred shared his secret to keeping the band together for 34 years. “Learning to ride the waves, baby…I like to think I’m good at understanding people, and when I formed this band, the main thing was to make sure it was an audience-oriented experience to where when people left, I didn’t want people saying, ‘Oh, that was nice. Oh, that was fun.’ I wanted to leave feeling exhilarated. The same things that Rock and Roll did for me when I was a kid. I wanted people to have that same feeling of just like I can do anything, that type of thing. That’s important.”

He added, “Every night I choose to make my world a killer Rock and Roll show with what I think is one hell of a Rock and Roll band. And I mean, it’s not up with people or anything.”
