The White House is on the defensive after President Biden’s first trip to the Middle East as president. The president’s visit to Saudi Arabia — a country Biden vowed to make a “pariah” — drew criticism from Hatice Cengiz, the fiancée of slain Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi. Multiple Democrats were critical of the trip as well, saying that it sent the wrong message. Biden defended the trip as necessary, saying it was part of his efforts to lower gas prices at home.
