The ‘Citizens in the East Government Street Neighborhood’ have weighed in on the reconnection of that street. A report from the group has been added to today’s Pensacola City Council agenda.
The council is scheduled to hear from Alan Gray, a planner with the West Florida Regional Planning Council, today regarding a series of public workshops the group oversaw. The workshops—which dealt with the principals of Complete Streets planning for the city’s historic district—were meant to gather public input on the reconnecting of East Government Street.
This afternoon, a report from the neighborhood residents was placed in the council’s agenda packet, just behind Gray’s presentation. Earlier this month, a resident who participated in the workshops requested that council allow him to present findings from the meetings.
The added report details the workshops and states that “the group was overwhelmingly opposed (about 50-3) to connecting East Government to either 9th Avenue or Bayfront Parkway for vehicular access.â€
“East Government should remain closed,†the report states. “This pocket neighborhood does not need or want any changes in vehicular access at all.â€
The Pensacola City Council meets at 3:15 p.m. today for its Committee of the Whole at Pensacola City Hall.
