On Thursday April 9, Horizen Restaurant, 3103 E. Strong Street, is hosting a special sushi day where all day long special rolls will be half off in memory of Chef John Ma, who committed suicide one year ago after ending his unknown battle with depression.
Come by for sushi all day and enjoy a special musical performance from 6-10 p.m. featuring local musicians Joseph Oliver and Gio Lugo. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Mental Health Association of West Florida, a non-profit organization that aims to raise awareness about mental health issues and provides supportive services and resources to our community.
Every year over 30,000 Americans die by their own hand. Ninety percent of people who commit suicide had an undiagnosed yet treatable mental illness. Suicide can be prevented. Help reduce the stigma surrounding suicide and mental illness. If you or someone you know may need help, call the 24-hour National Suicide Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK immediately or call our local 24-hour Lakeview Helpline at (850) 438-1617. For more information about suicide prevention, visit www.floridasuicideprevention.org.
For more information on the event, visit Horizen’s website at www.horizensushi.com or call the restaurant at (850) 432-7899.
This event is sponsored by Horizen Restaurant, Pixie Productions, Students for Suicide Awareness, and the Mental Health Association of West Florida in loving memory of Chef John Ma and thousands of others who would have stayed if they could.
