Revoking petition signatures

I spoke with Supervisor of Elections David Stafford about how a voter can take their name off a Donovan petition if they no longer want to be a part of it. Stafford said that there is no procedure under state law or the city charter that allows a voter to revocate their signature.

He suggested the best alternate is ask Mr. Donovan and the other people who have maintaining the petitions to return your signature card to you. You can email the PAC at TheChair@no48milliondebt.com or call Donovan Realty 432-6104. If they refuse to return your signature card, please contact me, rick@inweekly.net. We will have our attorney John Asmar intervene on your behalf at no cost to you.

The petition process is an important right under the city charter. However, people should not sign the petition under false pretenses. The Donovan petition is only about the bonds that were approved Oct. 8, 2009. The petition doesn’t force a referendum on the community maritime park. The time for that petition was in April 2009.
