Robinson will withdraw Open Container ordinance

After hearing from his fellow commissioners this morning at the board’s agenda review session, Escambia County Commissioner Grover Robinson said he will withdraw the proposed Open Container ordinance that was up for a vote this afternoon.

The law would have banned people from drinking and carrying open containers on public property in unincorporated areas of the county. Pensacola Beach and Perdido Key were excluded from the ordinance and covered by another more limited law.

Both Commissioners Doug Underhill and Wilson Robertson expressed doubts about the need for the ordinance.
