The City of Pensacola is nearly complete with improvements made to Roger Scott Tennis Center. The city began construction to make improvements to the facility in March 2023, and will have a soft reopening of the newly rebuilt tennis courts beginning Monday, Feb. 5. at 8 a.m. The soft reopening will give visitors access to the entire facility while the remainder of the project is completed.
Improvements made to Roger Scott Tennis Center include the replacement of 12 hard courts with 12 asphalt tennis courts. In addition to replacing the hard courts, the project included the following improvements:
- New sidewalks
- Drainage enhancements
- Electrical and lighting upgrades
- New fencing
- New grass
Remaining improvements will include the installation of shade structures and benches. The city plans to host a grand opening upon the project’s completion, anticipated in early summer 2024.
“I am very excited to be apart of the completion of this project,” Parks and Recreation Director Ben Heistein said. “These improvements will significantly enhance visitor’s experience and will be durable enough to withstand enjoyment by tennis players for many years to come.”
The approximately $3.86 million project was funded by a variety of City of Pensacola Local Option Sales Tax funds, along with a $1.3 million contribution from Escambia County.
Owned and operated by the City of Pensacola, Roger Scott Tennis Center is Northwest Florida’s largest tennis facility, featuring 18 hard courts and 10 clay courts.
