Outgoing State Rep. Joel Rudman is filing more bills, even though his resignation is effective Jan. 1. This makes three bills in eight days.

The latest targets ghost candidates, making it illegal to say “Beetlejuice” three times.

Press release: “Today, I announce the filing of my election integrity bill, a bill that ensures honest candidates as well as honest election results. This bill specifically targets the use of ghost candidates, a practice that makes a mockery of our democratic process. By requiring all candidates to pay qualifying fees, we are treating every candidate equally. By stating that a blank line on a ballot cannot close a primary, we are taking away the very incentive for running ghost candidates.

This bill also adds to Florida’s already high voting standards by allowing the manual hand counting of ballots while also ensuring that no tabulating devices are connected to the internet on Election Day. In the Free State of Florida, we understand that voting is a sacred right, one that we will not allow to be
corrupted.”
