Running Wild, West Pensacola Elementary launch Socktober

West Pensacola Elementary School is excited to announce its partnership with Running Wild for our annual “Socktober” sock donation event. From Oct.1 to Oct. 31 the community is encouraged to donate new socks to be distributed to individuals in need through  Opening Doors Northwest Florida.

Socktober began at West Pensacola in 2020 when we collected 422 pairs of socks for the homeless population in our area. Through community support and involvement, we collected 1624 pairs of socks last year! Our goal for 2024 is to collect 2000 pairs of socks!

“Socktober is about the children and families at West Pensacola giving back to the community and the community at large helping our efforts to, in turn, help the homeless population,” says Christine Baker,  principal at West Pensacola. “There are multiple organizations collecting at this point, and we are so  happy that Running Wild is coming on board!”

Socks are among the most requested yet least donated items at homeless shelters. This donation drive addresses that need while fostering community engagement and giving back to those who need it most.

“We are thrilled to team up with West Pensacola Elementary School for such a worthy cause,” said the  Running Wild team. “Socks may seem like a small gesture, but they make a world of difference to people  experiencing homelessness or financial hardship, especially as the colder months approach.”
