Press Release: The Saenger Theatre will sponsor a free showing of the movie and musical comedy “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,†at 8 p.m. on September 16–Gallery Night. In an effort to conduct market research to hearken back to the golden days of classic movies at the Saenger, admission for the movie is a brief market research survey that we will conduct in the lobby before the movie.
This 1966 classic farce musical comedy starring Zero Mostel (who also starred in the stage musical as Pseudolus), Phil Silvers and Buster Keaton is based on the stage musical by the same name. Inspired by the farces of the ancient Roman playwright Plautus, it tells the salacious story of a slave named Pseudolus and his attempts to win his freedom by helping his young master woo the girl next door. It won an Oscar in 1967 for “Best Music, Scoring of Music, Adaptation or Treatment.â€
“Our goal is to provide more opportunities for the public to experience the beauty of the Saenger Theatre,†said General Manager, Doug Lee. He continued, “having affordable, classic movies is a great way to accomplish that goal.†Doors will open to the auditorium for seating at 7:30 p.m. Leading up to the 8 p.m. showing of the movie, the Saenger Theatre lobby will be a Canstruction location from 5 – 8 p.m. and we will be hosting local artist and
photographer Trista Blouin from Look Who Just Blouin Photography with some of her fine art.
