The SMG-Managed Saenger Theatre was listed as a No. 2 Top Spot Nationwide by Venues Today, an international trade magazine. The ranking was based on concert and event grosses for venues with a 2,000 or fewer capacity for the period of January 16, 2013 through February 15, 2013. Included in the ranking were venues from markets more than ten times the size of Pensacola including Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Detroit, Boston, San Francisco and Fort Lauderdale.
Catapulting the Saenger Theatre to the top of the list was 3 nearly sold out performances of Broadway in Pensacola’s Blue Man Group. “Blue Man Group was our highest grossing show ever at the Saenger Theatre,†said Doug Lee, General Manager of the Saenger Theatre. He continued, “Blue Man Group brought very diverse audiences not only to the Saenger Theatre but also to downtown businesses.â€
Shows that appeared at the Saenger Theatre during the period were: In The Mood (2 performances) presented by Art Beat, Inc; Pensacola Opera’s performance of Carmen (2 performances); Capitol Steps sponsored by WUWF; Broadway in Pensacola’s Blue Man Group (3 performances); and the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra featuring Academy Award winning conductor, Bill Conti.
