Salzman disavows ‘blackface’ mailer

Telephone

State Rep. Michelle Salzman sent the following text:

“I had no knowledge of the mailer, and was not consulted about any negative mail. I adore Lumon and am very saddened that he has been affected by a race he has nothing to do with. Lumon has been a great partner and friend to me, politics could never change that. He and I have spoken several times since the incident occurred, each time I have told him I have no idea who was behind it, paid for it nor who designed/approved it.”

I have sought more details about the rumor. After receiving more clarification, Salzman has been saying that  ECUA board member Lois Benson told Ashlee Hofberger to go negative, not that Benson advised the specific race-baiting mailer sent earlier this week. I updated today’s Daily Outtakes post.

I asked the state lawmaker if she would continue to support Ashlee Hofberger and if she would continue to use and recommend Mark Zubaly, the consultant behind the mailer:

  • Rep. Salzman replied, “I will continue to support Hofberger but cannot commit to what’s next for consultants.”
