Santa Rosa Rookie of the Year

Joshua Simmons, a second year third grade teacher at B.C. Russell Elementary School, was recently named the 2012 Santa Rosa Rookie of the Year 2012. Simmons was selected from a field of 30 educators with three or less years of teaching experience who were honored at this event. The Gulf Breeze Area Chamber of Commerce presented Simmons with a $500 Sara Caudell Scholarship.

“Joshua is a teacher who focuses on student success and sets goals to reach all learners,” said B.C. Russell Elementary Principal Pam Smith. “His real strengths lie in his positive relationships with students, his strong command of the curriculum, and his use of technology to create active engagement in the classroom. When you put positive energy, caring relationships, strong academic content knowledge and a collaborative spirit all together in one person… you get Josh Simmons.”
