Santa Rosa Rookie Teacher of the Year

Press Release: Santa Rosa Education Foundation announced Rita Marcilliat of Navarre High School as the Santa Rosa Rookie of the Year 2011 during a reception sponsored by Michael & Jo-Ann Price on Tuesday afternoon. She was selected from a field of 29 educators with three or less years of teaching experience who were honored at this event. The Gulf Breeze Area Chamber of Commerce and the Optimist Club of Gulf Breeze presented Rita with a $1,000 Sara Caudell Scholarship.

“Rita Marcilliat has been a tremendous asset and a valuable addition to Navarre High. I have had the privilege and opportunity to observe Rita on the “teaching stage” numerous times. With each formal and informal observation, it has been quite evident that she is very competent and confident in her subject area. It is quite evident that Rita is genuinely concerned about students and is fully committed to doing the best in all that she attempts. She is very conscientious in planning and carrying out all of her duties with excellence and pride. Rita is an outstanding educator and is very much respected by the faculty and student body. Her wonderful personality and ability to work so well with others make her the consummate professional educator. It is teachers like Rita that make Santa Rosa County shine!”

Navarre High School Principal Brian Noack “After 20 years of marriage and raising children, my mother embraced the challenge of going to college to obtain a degree and teaching certificate. After taking many years off to raise children, I proudly followed in her footsteps and returned to college to complete my degree and obtain a teaching certificate at 46. I have worked in an educational environment as a teacher assistant and administrative assistant for 30 years, but as a teacher for only 3. My first years of teaching have been filled with excitement, trepidation, and enthusiasm! I can make a difference!”
