The News Service of Florida reports that Gov. Rick Scott declined Tuesday to comment on the process to fill the vacant lieutenant governor’s office. The former Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll stepped down March 12 and little has been revealed on who Scott has in mind for the replacement.

“We have a lot of great candidates around the state, we have a great state, a lot of great people,” Scott told reporters after the Cabinet meeting in the Capitol.

According to press reports, Gov. Scott is considering four people for the role: State Sen. Tom Lee (R-Brandon), Hillsborough County Commissioner Sandy Murman, Seminole County Sheriff Don Eslinger, and St. Johns County School Superintendent Joseph Joyner.

At one point, Pensacola Mayor Ashton Hayward and Escambia County Commissioner Gene Valentino were mentioned as possible candidates, but those rumors have died off.
