With no discussion, the Escambia Board of County Commissioners approved 3-0 to authorize the county attorney to file a circuit court action on Sean’s Outpost, the homeless camp at 1999 Massachusetts Ave. Commissioners Gene Valentino and Grover Robinson were absent.

The county is seeking declaratory and/or injunctive relief against the owners of the property for continued violations of Escambia Code of Ordinances and the Escambia County Land Development Code.

On Jan. 14, the Escambia Environmental Enforcement Division issued a Notice of Violation and Cease/Desist to Sean’s Outpost, Inc. The violations included nuisance conditions, trash and debris, and the unpermitted erection of tents and other structures on the property. While the case has been pending before the Special Magistrate, Code Enforcment has noticed that tents and continue to be erected on the property and unclean conditions persist.

The Injunctive relief is requested to compel removal of all unpermitted structures and tents until the owner obtains approval for the intended use of the property through the Development Review Committee process.
