Escambia County’s selection committee for the county administrator position meets for the first time today.

The committee was formed by the Escambia County Commission, with each commissioner selecting one person to sit on the committee. The group is tasked with assessing the pool of applicants vying for the administrator position, and making a recommendation to the county commission.

According to the Human Resource Department, there are 41 qualified applicants; in total, 63 individuals applied for the administrator position. Applicants include city and county administrators, private-sector CEOs, a TSA security director, and a college professor. George Touart—who served previously as Escambia’s administrator, and also serves currently as interim administrator—has also applied for the job.

The selection committee consists of the following members: David Pavlock was appointed by Commissioner Wilson Robertson; Joseph Ward, Sr., was appointed by Commissioner Gene Valentino; Pastor Joseph Marshall was appointed by Commissioner Lumon May; Tom Knox was appointed by Commissioner Grover Robinson; Bob Price, Jr., was appointed by Commissioner Steven Barry.

Today’s selection committee meeting begins at 1:30 p.m., at the Central Office Complex, 3363 West Park Place.
