Seeds of Hope 5K set for Nov. 23

The University of West Florida’s chapter of Students for Suicide Awareness (SSA) is hosting the 4th Annual “Seeds of Hope” 5k Community Walk on Saturday, Nov. 23 for International Survivors of Suicide Day in downtown Pensacola.

The walk will begin and end at Seville Quarter (located at 130 E. Government Street) in collaboration with the Seville Quarter Turkey Trot 5k run/walk which begins at 8 am. Registration for Seeds of Hope walk is free for students with ID and any children under 18, $15 for non-students through Nov. 7, late registration is $18 from Nov. 8 – 22. Walk day registration is $20 and takes place at Seville Quarter from 6:45-7:45am. Post-walk activities at Seville Quarter include turkey chili, breakfast, drinks and prizes in Phineas Phoggs. SSA will host live music by Danielle DeMaria, a Survivor Art Exhibit, info tables, guest speakers, door prizes, and more in Rosie O’Grady’s. There will also be free chair massages before and after the walk compliments of the Fortis Institute.

A memorial t-shirt is guaranteed to the first 100 registrants. Packet pick-up will take place at Seville Quarter on Friday, Nov. 22 from 4-7pm. Register forms can be picked up at Seville Quarter.

Proceeds from the walk will benefit SSA and their mission to spread a message of hope that suicide is preventable by talking about it with friends, family, counselors, and/ or medical professionals. SSA hosts this walk annually to raise awareness about suicide prevention, allow an opportunity for survivors of suicide to unite and reflect on the memories of their lost loved ones, and raise funds to continue awareness efforts in memory of Tyler Knisely, a UWF student and member of Sigma Chi Fraternity.

The event is hosted by SSA and Sigma Chi Fraternity and sponsored by Seville Quarter in memory of Robbie Behm, UWF SGA, Running Wild, Monster Graphics, TK101 FM, 107.3FM Hit Music Now, Culinary Productions, Inc., Design Master, Fortis Institute, SquareBox Photographics, The Dyer Family in memory of Lee Dyer, Aloha Screen Printing, DLUX Printing, Creative Instinct, the Jarina Family in memory of Dylan Randolph, and other donors.
