The Orlando Sentinel reports that Seminole County commissioners today are expected to award nearly $1.5 million to the Harvest Time International charity in Sanford to help families break the cycle of homelessness. Harvest Time has agreed to chip in an additional $450,000 in cash and services and will work with other charities. During the next two years, the total amount will allow the charity to help at least 150 families with job training, counseling, emergency shelter, utility-bill payments and rental assistance for up to 21 months. BTW: According to latest FLDOE reports, Seminole County has 1,865 children that are homeless–up 10 percent over the prior year. Escambia County has 1,423 homeless children which is up from 1,091 reported by the school district for 2010-11 — a 30 percent increase. Santa Rosa County has even more– 1,651 children that are homeless, up from 1,467. That’s a 13 percent increase.
