Senate committee approves plans to renovate federal courthouse in Pensacola

The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee today approved the General Services Administration’s plan to renovate the federal courthouse in Pensacola. The measure was approved by the House Transportation and Infrastructure committee last week. And while Appropriations Committees in both chambers will still need to approve the $30 million that the GSA says is needed to complete work on the courthouse, U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL), a long-time advocate for repairing the courthouse, lauded the plan’s approval today as a major step forward. Following is a comment from Nelson:

“We had a small victory today: one of our major committees now has given the greenlight for the rehab of the Pensacola courthouse,” said Nelson. “The building has got to be taken down to the studs; there was so much mold and mildew. It’s about a $30 million project and now that the committee has given its okay, we’re on the way to get that money.”
