This morning at a budget workshop, Interim County Administrator George Touart told the county commission that he can’t give them any numbers on the cost of assuming control of the county jail because Sheriff David Morgan and his staff haven’t been cooperative.

We reached Sheriff Morgan for comment.

“If Mr. Touart will name the person and instance in which a member of my staff has not been cooperative, I will fire that person immediately,” Sheriff Morgan said. “I guarantee you they don’t exist.”

The budget workshop reconvenes this afternoon. The morning session concluded with Commission Chairman Gene Valentino breaking his gavel as he tried to stop Admiral Leroy from speaking. I missed the drama, but several have called saying it was quite a sight.
