Sheriff in trouble over fishing trip

Sarasota Herald Tribune reports:

Health care company executive Doyle Moore wanted a $9 million contract with the Sheriff’s Office, so he wanted to get to know Sheriff Bill Balkwill.

Sheriff Bill Balkwill and Doyle Moore, the CEO of Armor Correctional Health Services, exchanged e-mails in 2006 about their fishing trip and about Armor’s bid to give medical treatment to inmates at the Sarasota County jail.

Moore, chief executive of Armor Correctional Health Services, took Balkwill fishing on Lake Okeechobee, renting two boats with guides and plenty of bait. Moore paid the $748 bill with a credit card.

Good thing that nothing like this ever happens in Escambia County.
