Should Civic Center be sold?

The word that I am getting is that at least three of the Escambia County commissioners are ready to dump the Pensacola Civic Center and sell to the highest bidder.

Is it wise to do so? Or just short-sighted? Imagine what will happen if the buyer doesn’t maintain it. We could end up with it being a huge flea market or consignment “mall.” They could charge high schools and other local groups huge rates for usage – without any recourse from the commission.

I can see it passing from owner to owner to owner – each failing to make it profitable. This is one issue that needs to be thought out and throughly discussed. There are a lot of possible pitfalls here.
