The City of Pensacola’s monitored recycling drop-off site at 2759 N. Palafox Street has closed and will remain closed through September.
Why? The significant reduction in the volume of materials dropped off at the site. Plus, there is a considerable overtime cost to operate this drop-off location on Saturday. Even with minimal staff, this cost can no longer be justified.
- “As we sought out a viable recycling plan following the suspension of curbside recycling in 2023, many residents who still wanted to participate in a recycling program actively sought this drop-off site,” says Darryl Singleton, director of Pensacola Energy and Sanitation Services. “We believe many of those people have jumped on board our opt-in recycling program, and the amount of collections on Saturdays simply does not justify the overtime costs associated with keeping this site open.”

Since the recycling business near Gulf Beach Highway closed, there seems to be no place for recycling electronics. There are a few businesses that will take whole computers, but no one seems to want TVs or electronic components, which are the most polluting items. If there is such a place, I would like to know about it. Please don’t mention the landfill on Beulah Road. No one has that much free time.
