The Downtown Parking Management District (DPMD) stated in a press release that these new machines will be user-friendly and will allow downtown patrons to use various payment options such as debit and credit cards as well as U.S. coins, except for pennies. You will also be able to choose your time increments from as little as six minutes to five hours.
The remaining electronic meters will be reprogrammed to accept nickels, dimes and quarters.
One feature of paystations is the “pay and display,†which will allow you to purchase portable parking time. Once you purchase your time, a receipt is printed, which you display in your driver’s side front window. As long as your parking within the time printed, you can move around and park at any other paid on-street spot.
The installation of the paystations should be finished in the next couple of days. Once complete, the DPMD will have parking ambassadors, as they’re referred to, on the streets Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for several weeks.
