The Southeastern Teen Shakespeare Company (SETSCO) invites all teen members of the community to audition for its tenth company. SETSCO will hold auditions for the 2014-2015 season September 2 & 3 at Tower East, 1010 N. 12th Avenue. Auditions will begin promptly at 6 p.m. both days. Actors ages 13-19 are eligible to audition for acceptance into the company, which is a one-year commitment that begins in September and ends in August 2015. Those auditioning do not need to come to both days of auditions.

“We are excited to be starting our tenth year as a program for teens in Pensacola,” said director, Michelle Hancock. “Since it’s an important anniversary year for us, we’re planning for a big turnout at auditions. We are, after all, the only fully-producing teen Shakespeare company on the East Coast as well as almost the only one in the nation.”

Applications for the Company are available through www.setsco.org. Auditions will consist of a warm up, improvisation, a cold read, and the performance of a prepared monologue. Students are encouraged to choose a monologue early. Members of the audition panel expect that all monologues will be solidly memorized and fully prepared. There is a list of monologues to choose from on the application and website.

Throughout the year, Company members participate in monthly workshops and perform at events such as the Great Gulfcoast Arts Festival, the Mobile and Pensacola Renaissance Faires, and Festival on the Green. Each summer, SetsCo produces one of Shakespeare’s plays. This past June, they put on a Steampunk-flavored version of The Taming of the Shrew.

The Southeastern Teen Shakespeare Company is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation dedicated to providing teens in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties with instruction and performance opportunities that lead to their significant growth as artists, as community members, and as human beings.
