Southwest Greenway Grows

The newest section of the Southwest Greenway will open next week. This portion of the trail is located along the north bank of Jones Creek.

When completed, the Southwest Greenway will span 12 miles, connecting Bayou Chico and Perdido Bay. The newest portion—paid for with a $395,000 grant from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection—consists of 3,100 linear feet of elevated boardwalk, two spanned pedestrian crossings over Jones Creek and two connections to the Pensacola State College Warrington Campus.

Escambia County, along with PSC, will host a grand opening ceremony Jan. 18 at 11 .am. on the college’s Warrington campus. In conjunction with Arbor Day, PSC President Dr. Edward Meadows will donate trees to be planted on the campus, while the county will join University of Florida Institute of Food and Agriculture Science (UF/IFAS) Extension and the Florida Forestry Service in giving away seedling trees.
