Sports: Sun Belt Championships, Blue Wahoos Challenge

Men’s Basketball Championship – 6 p.m.
James Madison and Arkansas State earned victories to secure spots in Monday evening’s 2024 Hercules Tires Sun Belt Men’s Basketball Championship Game.

The title game will be televised nationally on ESPN with tipoff scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.

Arkansas State (18-15), the No. 4 seed, ousted top-seeded App State (27-6), 67-65, on a buzzer-beater at the end of regulation by junior guard Freddy Hicks to earn their first Sun Belt championship game appearance since 2007. The Red Wolves are in search of their first NCAA Tournament berth since 1999.

James Madison (30-3), the No. 2 seed, outlasted 11th-seeded Texas State (17-18), 73-68, to notch its first 30-win campaign in program history and extend their winning streak to 12 games. The Dukes will make their first Sun Belt title game appearance and seek their first NCAA Tournament bid since 2013.

Women’s ChaBasketball Championship – 1 p.m.
Marshall and James Madison will meet in Monday’s Hercules Tires Sun Belt Women’s Basketball Championship Final.

The 2024 Sun Belt Regular Season Champion Herd will look for the season sweep as they enter Monday’s final with a 19-1 mark against league foes in their 2023-24 campaign. Monday’s meeting between the Herd and the Dukes will also mark their third clash this season. The teams split the regular season series with each winning on their opponent’s home floor.

Marshall will face the reigning Sun Belt Conference Champions in James Madison. The Dukes are undefeated in the Pensacola Bay Center, boasting an impressive 5-0 record in the tournament. The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPNU.

Blue Wahoo’s Challenge

The fifth annual Blue Wahoos’ Challenge collegiate baseball tournament began Saturday with one game and three different teams practicing at Blue Wahoos Stadium.

Wisconsin-Whitewater rallied in the ninth inning for a walkoff 4-3 win against Wisconsin-Platteville in a junior varsity game. McMurry University followed with a 90-minute practice Saturday night at Blue Wahoos Stadium.
