The Gulf Breeze City Council voted last night at its executive session to make drivers involved in an accident pay a special fee. According to city staff, it costs the city more than 200-thousand dollars in officer time, to investigate crashes, and patrol highways.

Isn’t dealing with accidents and crime part of the basic service that citizens should expect from their police departments?

Our local governments have become fee happy….not reducing the size of government, just switching to less obvious revenue sources. Soon we will be charged for simply calling our government officials and departments.
