SRIA to Consider Dogs on Beach

The Santa Rosa Island Authority will conduct the second public hearing this evening concerning the possibility of allowing dogs limited access to Pensacola Beach.

Last month, the SRIA heard from a full gallery of citizens during the first public hearing. Some urged the officials to consider allowing dogs on certain portions of the public beach during specified hours. Others thought such a practice would lead to environmental and safety issues.

Following tonight’s second public hearing, the SRIA will make a recommendation to the Escambia County Commission. The final decision on the issue will ultimately come from the commission.

Tonight’s SRIA meeting begins at 5 p.m. at 1 Via de Luna on Pensacola Beach.
