St. Christopher Christmas Caravan, Dec. 5

Christmas
St. Christopher’s Christmas Caravan is an historic holiday fundraising event. Last year’s event raised over $33,000 for various local charities.

Caravan chair for 2014, Pat Fogg, is pleased to announce the three historic North Hill homes on the Home Tour. All will be decorated appropriately for the Christmas Season and open to ticket holders from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, December 5. Tickets are $10 for the tour and may be purchased from St. Christopher’s Church Office or at any of the homes during the home tour.

The Gary and Bessann Watson home at 1308 N Barcelona Street was built in 1929 by William Vincent Fauria a native Pensacolian coming from a long line of ship captains. William Vincent Fauria was a second generation Pensacolian and had attended Springhill College in Mobile, AL. The Watson’s renovated in the home in 2002, but most of the windows and doors and tile work in the guest bath are original to the house.

The Harry and Pam Schwartz home at 1125 N. Spring Street is located in the North Hill Preservation District. The architectural style is Tudor Revival. It was built in 1929 by Dr. Walter Payne for his Scottish bride. To ensure excellence in detail and craftsmanship, workman from England built the home. There are three stories with five bedrooms and five and a half bathrooms within 8,000 square feet of living space.

The Edmund Fox house at 126 W. Brainerd Street was built in 1927 on the site of Spanish Fort San Bernardo in North Hill. Architect Walker Willis designed the Tudor Revival house renovations to the San Carlos Hotel. The bricks of the house are made of Pensacola sand giving the house its distinctive sand color which is complemented by the original red tile roof by Ludovico Celedon. The unique splayed doorway is featured at the T. T. Wentworth Museum as one of the more prominent doorways in the North Hill Neighborhood.

The ever popular bazaar and bake sales starts at 10:00am. It features our newest cookbook – Breakin’ Bread II. With over 800 traditional and modern recipes it makes an excellent Christmas or hostess gift for your holiday parties. The handcrafted wine cork Christmas trees, wreaths, earrings, etc. also make excellent gifts or decorations.

The traditional Christmas luncheon, with live music by Dr. Breeze, is served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tickets are $12. The lunch features our special recipes for hot chicken salad and sweet and sour green beans catered by Apple Market. It also includes pasta salad, orange cranberry relish, “Caravan” rolls and cheesecake for dessert.

The silent auction is a great place to have fun bidding on gifts for yourself or others. You can usually get a great deal on items like restaurant gift certificates, vacation packages, theme baskets, and artwork. It opens at 10:00 a.m., closes at 2 p.m. and reopens at 6:30 p.m. Bidding ends at 8:30 p.m.

The Gala Celebration is from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. with heavy hors d’oeuvres and live musical entertainment by Dr. Breeze featuring guitarist Wilk McKean and vocalist Jennifer DelGallo-Taylor. Tickets are $25.00 and reservations are necessary.

Starting this year you can now pay for your purchases and tickets with visa and mastercard.
