St. Joe attorney gets keys to land planning

Gov. Rick Scott has appointed Billy Buzzett, an attorney who is vice president of strategic planning for St. Joe Co., to head the state’s land-use planning agency. He will oversee the merger of Department of Community Affairs with Departments of Transportation and Environmental Regulation.

St. Joe’s hands were caught last year in the “Taj Mahal” built for the District Court of Appeals and in derailing class action suit regarding a minority neighborhood in Gulf County over a toxic dump controlled by the company.

St. Joe Co. owns about 577,000 acres in Northwest Florida and 71,000 acres surrounding Bay County’s new airport…having control over DCA and the new combined agency will be very helpful to the largest landowner in the Panhandle, outside of the federal government.
