St. John’s Cemetery sends email to Mayor Hayward on Confederate monument

Mr. Mayor;

The board of directors of St. John’s Cemetery, Inc. which is a historic museum of Pensacola’s past, has authorized me to offer a resting place within our confines on G Street.

We have several round-about islands which would accommodate the monument.

There are many Confederate veterans buried on our grounds including some luminaries.

We are currently embarked upon a program to convert the entire cemetery to an outdoor museum which has been funded by a grant from Impact 100 so the monument would have a suitable surrounding.

St. John’s cemetery has a long history of inclusion and there is a multitude of citizens of diverse history and heritage.

We should all strive to preserve our history for future generations that may come once again to appreciate the struggles and the sacrifices of our fore bearers.

Respectfully
