Stamp Out Hunger

Escambia and Santa Rosa County letter carriers are joining forces to Stamp Out Hunger in the community. This is the 20th year for Stamp Out Hunger and is the nation’s largest single-day food drive. In 2011, drive organizers in Escambia and Santa Rosa communities collected more than 200,000 pounds of food for local pantries. This year, the food will be distributed to: Manna Food Pantries, St. Vincent de Paul, Bay Area Food Bank, Warrington Emergency Aid, Acts Ministries of Gulf Breeze and We Care Ministries of Navarre United Methodist Church.

To make your contribution Stamp Out Hunger, leave a sturdy bag containing non-perishable foods such as canned soup, canned vegetables, pasta, rice or cereal next to your mailbox prior to time of regular mail delivery on Saturday, May 12. Local mail carriers will collect the donations to tale to the post offices where local food banks will pick up the contributions.

Donations are very much in need. The six pantries that Manna operates in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties saw a 44 percent increase in service demand in 2011 compared to 2010.

United Way of Escambia County, the U.S. Postal Service, National Association of Letter Carriers and Feeding America, Campbell’s Soup Company, AARP, Valpak, the National Rural Letter Carriers’ Association, the AFL-CIO and Uncle Bob’s Storage are supporters of Stamp Out Hunger.
