Three on the most popular bill in front of the Florida Legislature, according to the website Florida Current, concern the banning people from texting while driving their cars–a very good indication that such a law will pass this session. One prohibits teens from using any cell phone or wireless communication device for any reason while driving.
SB 0052 Use of Wireless Communications Devices While Driving: creates “Florida Ban on Texting While Driving Law”; prohibits the operation of a motor vehicle while using a wireless communications device for certain purposes; defining the term “wireless communications device”; provides for points to be assessed against a driver license for the unlawful use of a wireless communications device within a school safety zone or resulting in a crash.
Local lawmaker Clay Ford (R-Gulf Breeze) is sponsoring the companion bill in the Florida House, HB 13.
There is also another bill in the Florida Senate, SB 152 “Minor Traffic Safety Act.” It prohibits on teens under age 18 years of age from operating a motor vehicle while using any wireless communications device or telephone.
