The state legislature’s idea for a 2.5% increase in sales tax – that will replace property taxes – is a bad idea.
First, more people will drive to Foley, Malbis and other Alabama cities to shop. Local retail will suffer.
Second, more people will shop online to avoid taxes. Also hurting local retail.
Third, south Florida who control the state House will have more influence over our county and city budgets than the local citizens.
Republicans are suppose to advocate less government, more power and control at the local level. This helps build power bases in Tallahassee.
Bad idea, bad time.
