Summer with Shakespeare

Southeastern Teen Shakespeare Company announces three Shakespeare Camps

Three evil witches help Macbeth commit the murder in his heart. Joan of Arc leads the French against the English invaders. A shipwrecked maiden dresses as a boy for safety and promptly falls in love with a local Duke. Whatever the situation, Shakespeare’s characters jump in with both feet and ACT! This year, campers will produce a 30-45 minute version of one of Shakespeare’s plays. With comedy, tragedy, and history all on the schedule, there’s something for everyone.

Session 1 – The Tragedy of Macbeth
Session 2 – The History of Henry VI, Part I
Session 3 – The Comedy of Twelfth Night

Mornings will be spent learning the nuts and bolts of performing Shakespeare. Campers will explore voice and speech, movement, Shakespeare’s language, improvisation, stage combat, and acting techniques. In the afternoons, campers will work on the shortened version of the play that they will be performing for family, friends, and the public on Friday.

Registration is now open for Shakespeare Camp. Students ages 12-19 are invited to join the members of the Southeastern Teen Shakespeare Company in an exploration of the art of acting that builds confidence, encourages teamwork, unleashes creativity, and teaches young people the power and beauty of language. Campers will perform exercises and work on shortened versions of some of Shakespeare’s greatest plays.

On Fridays, camp will meet at a branch of the West Florida Public Library, and performances of the camper’s work will be open to the public at 3:00pm as SETSCO continues to partner with the library system for the Year of Shakespeare.

The Southeastern Teen Shakespeare Company is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing teens in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties with instruction and performance opportunities that lead to their significant growth as artists, community members, and human beings.
