As of Saturday, April 4 at 6 p.m. EDT, Florida edged closer t0 12K cases, up 1,277 in the past 24 hours. Â Deaths increased by 25 to 195 total.
Last Saturday, Escambia County had only 27 cases. Two weeks ago, the county had one case and County Administrator Janice Gilley had yet to activate the Emergency Operations Center. Â Now Escambia has 118 and one death.

Florida Ranks Second for Testing
Yesterday, Governor Ron DeSantis and the  Florida Department of Health (DOH) highlighted the state’s testing of more than 100,000 Floridians, making  Florida  the state with the second-highest number of tested individuals. Only New York has tested more individuals.

To increase the number of testing, DOH  established eight state-supported COVID-19 testing sites, located in Florida’s most impacted communities:
- The Hard Rock Stadium in Miami
- South Dade Government Center in Miami-Dade County
- Marlins Stadium in Miami
- The Orange County Convention Center
- TIAA Bank Field Lot J in Jacksonville
- CB Smith Park in Broward County
- The FITTEAM Ballpark of the Palm Beaches in Palm Beach County
- Raymond James Stadium in Tampa
Meanwhile, Escambia County has stopped releasing test information in its updates. Pensacola Mayor Grover Robinson is in quarantine and hasn’t sent Inweekly any updates on Ascension Sacred Heart’s drive-thru testing since Thursday.
Using the latest data from CDC (as of April 3), we ranked the states in the governor’s testing list by percentage of positives. New York and New Jersey have about one out of every three tests coming back positive. Florida is ranked sixth.
